Keith The Prepper reporting the daily news

Water restrictions have widened sharply across southern England, with Anglian, Southern, South East and Cambridge Water all now imposing hosepipe bans alongside Thames Water — taking the total under restriction to roughly 18 million people amid the driest July in nearly 200 years. Forecasters are warning of a fourth UK heatwave building for the middle of next week, with temperatures set to reach 35°C in the south. Elsewhere, evacuated Cairngorms residents have been allowed home and the Essex fertiliser fire is now contained — check today’s checklist before the heat returns.

🌦️ Weather Warnings & Outlook

England & Wales — Fourth heatwave building for midweek

Status: Developing. The BBC Weather outlook and Met Office long-range guidance point to a fourth UK heatwave of the summer building from Tuesday, with temperatures forecast to reach the low-to-mid 30s and possibly 35°C in parts of southern England by midweek. There is currently no live weather warning in force according to the Met Office, but this is the fourth such spell this summer and follows a string of yellow heat-health alerts. Households should start preparing now — see today’s checklist below.

💧 Water & Utilities

Southern England — Hosepipe bans widen to around 18 million people

Status: Confirmed. As previously covered (22 July), Thames Water’s hosepipe ban has now been joined by South East Water, Anglian Water, Southern Water and Cambridge Water, taking the total number of customers under restriction across southern and eastern England to an estimated 18 million. The bans follow official drought status in parts of Wales after the driest July in nearly 200 years. Rules and exemptions vary slightly by supplier — check your own water company’s website before using a hosepipe, pressure washer, or filling a paddling pool, as fines can apply. Full detail on Thames Water’s own restrictions is on their newsroom page.

The Tintwistle Moor wildfire on the Peak District, first declared a major incident on 13 July, is still burning more than a month after it broke out, with fire chiefs saying forecast overnight rain should assist crews, according to Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service. ✅ Quick Risk Summary — 48-Hour Checklist

  • ☑️ Check your water supplier’s website for exact hosepipe ban rules before watering the garden or washing the car
  • ☑️ Freeze a few bottles of water now — useful for keeping food cool and for drinking if next week’s heat arrives early
  • ☑️ Check on elderly or vulnerable neighbours before the heat returns midweek
  • ☑️ Keep pets cool, walk them early or late, and never leave them in a car or conservatory
  • ☑️ Charge power banks and torches — hot weather often brings its own spike in electricity demand
  • ☑️ If you’re near Headon Warren, Tintwistle Moor or the Essex fire site, follow local fire service advice and avoid the area

UK Prepper Hub Tip of the Day

If a hosepipe ban applies to you, keep a couple of old washing-up bowls under an outside tap or in the shower to catch “grey water” while you wait for it to warm up — it’s free, doesn’t touch mains pressure, and is enough to keep a few pots and hanging baskets alive through a dry spell. Check on pets too — paving and decking can get hot enough to burn paws long before the air feels unbearable.
