UK — No Warnings in Force

Status: Confirmed. The Met Office warnings page shows no warnings anywhere in the UK from today through Sunday 27 September, although the page carried a note that warnings may be out of date, so check the Met Office app for live changes. With no rain in the picture, the drought pressures covered in recent days (19 September) are not easing this week.

UK — RNLI Supporters Warned Their Personal Data May Have Been Stolen

Status: Confirmed. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution has told supporters that their name, contact details and records of interactions with the charity could have been taken in a cyber-attack on Beacon CRM, a company it uses to manage supporter relationships, the Guardian reports. The warning went out in a letter with the autumn copy of the charity’s Lifeboat magazine. The Guardian says the Beacon CRM attack affected about 1,500 charities in late July and that Beacon advised affected organisations to assume the data held on its systems was taken. The RNLI says there is no evidence so far that supporter information has been published, shared online or misused, and Beacon says the attacker indicated it would delete the data. If you support the RNLI or any charity that uses a similar system, expect scammers to try to use real details to make texts, emails and calls look genuine.

Europe — Spy Chiefs Warn Russia May Test NATO “in Months, Not Years”

Status: Developing. European intelligence officials have raised the possibility of an imminent Russian test of NATO, and the head of the Czech Republic’s BIS security service told the Guardian that a limited incursion, false-flag provocations or a large influence campaign could play out in “months, not years”. It follows Poland’s prime minister telling parliament that intelligence suggested Russia might launch a drone or missile attack on NATO territory in the coming months, and France’s president calling that warning “sound and well-documented”. Baltic officials are more cautious: Latvia’s state security service chief said “we don’t see indications of an imminent attack”, and Estonia’s foreign ministry urged people to “keep calm, carry on”. Russia’s Kremlin spokesperson has dismissed rumours of an attack. The report does not name the UK as a target and nothing in it changes UK official advice, but it is a reminder of why households are being encouraged to build basic resilience. A1 Northbound, Lincolnshire — Burst Water Main Closes a Lane Between Stamford and Colsterworth

Status: Ongoing. One lane of the A1 northbound between the A606 at Stamford and the A151 at Colsterworth was closed on Sunday afternoon after a burst water main flooded part of the carriageway, LincsOnline reported, with delays of about 10 minutes on the approach. National Highways said there was no estimated repair time at that stage, so check its live traffic information before you travel if you use the route. It is another case of a failed water main turning into a road problem, as with the Prestwich sinkhole closure covered yesterday (20 September).

Middle East — Iran Warns of US Strike Plans; Oil Dips but Stays Above $100

Status: Developing. As reported yesterday (20 September), Houthi strikes hit Saudi oil sites, and tensions have since risen. The Guardian reports that Iran says it has intelligence the US is preparing a renewed bombing campaign, that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has warned all US bases in the region would become targets if an attack happens, and that the US State Department has issued a new security alert to US citizens in the Middle East. The Guardian adds that Saturday’s Houthi barrage was the first sustained attack on Riyadh’s Aramco facilities since the Saudi-Houthi ceasefire broke down in June, and that the Strait of Hormuz is still effectively closed to western traffic, with pressure on European energy supplies growing and countries such as France taking emergency measures to prevent fuel shortages. CNBC says Brent crude fell 1.54% to $102.27 a barrel early on Monday as traders watched for a recovery in Saudi shipments, and quotes JPMorgan analysts saying Middle East oil flows remain “surprisingly strong” despite disruption to Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline, though still 6.1 million barrels a day below the 2025 average. Bearsted, Kent — 118 Households Hit by Burst Main; Fixed This Morning

Status: Confirmed. A burst main in Creve Coeur Close left 118 households near Maidstone with low or no water pressure, Kent Online reports, and a resident described the leak on Bearsted Road as knee-deep in places. South East Water confirmed by 6:29am on Monday that the burst main was fixed and water should now be flowing normally. It says any discolouration is iron disturbed in the pipes and is not harmful, and advises running the cold kitchen tap until the water runs clear. It delivered bottled water to priority services customers and reopened a bottled water station at Maidstone Leisure Centre in Mote Park at 8am as a precaution. It is the latest burst-main outage after Ledbury (20 September) and Scunthorpe (19 September), so a few days of stored drinking water per person is worth having.

Great Britain — Bluetongue: Confirmed Cases Reach 1,517

Status: Ongoing. The latest APHA update puts confirmed bluetongue cases in the 2026 to 2027 season at 1,517 premises, up from the 1,456 reported yesterday (20 September). That is 1,326 in England, 159 in Wales, 32 in Scotland and none in Northern Ireland. The 61 new cases are 48 in England, in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset, and 13 in Wales, across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Flintshire, Monmouthshire, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Torfaen and the Vale of Glamorgan. Devon remains the worst-hit county at 672 cases, and a further 1,465 potential cases are under investigation. No new cases were confirmed in Scotland. Livestock keepers are asked to stay vigilant for signs and report any suspected case.

England & Wales — Drought Cuts UK Milk Collections; Scottish Dairy Sends Supplies South

Status: Developing. UK daily milk collections are running about 1.24 million litres, or 3.7%, below the same week last year, according to AHDB figures reported by The Scotsman and The Independent. Farmers in England and Wales have faced poor grazing, stunted harvests and heat stress on livestock after the hottest summer on record. Ayrshire’s Mossgiel Organic Dairy said it had sent about 56,000 litres of Scottish organic milk south by 11 September and was asked for a further 40,000 litres that it did not have. Its founder said the drought “has caused serious supply issues across the dairy industry”. The reports describe tight supply rather than confirmed empty shelves and do not forecast price rises. If you rely on milk, a carton or two of long-life UHT in the cupboard is a cheap buffer.

Weymouth, Dorset — Block of Flats Fire Forces Residents Out

Status: Confirmed. Firefighters were called to Keel House on Dorchester Road at 00:38 on Sunday after a top-floor fire spread into the roof space, and residents were evacuated, BBC News (via Yahoo News) reports. Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service sent eight appliances at the peak, including an aerial ladder platform, and by about 10:00 three appliances and the platform remained, with road closures in place and people asked to avoid the area. The report does not say how many residents were evacuated. It follows the Folkestone hotel fire evacuation covered yesterday (20 September), and both are reminders to know your two nearest exits and keep your phone, shoes and keys within reach at night.

UK — What Dietitians Say to Stock Up on After Government Long-Life Food Advice

Status: Confirmed. BBC News has published a practical explainer following the government’s advice earlier this month to add a few more long-life products to your food basket in case the food supply chain is interrupted. The BBC says Environment Secretary Dame Angela Eagle told the Guardian that El Niño would lead to “more extreme storms in this country”. The British Nutrition Foundation’s Dr Sammie Gill recommends prioritising complex carbohydrates such as wholegrain cereals, oats, rice and pasta, and proteins such as canned chickpeas, lentils, kidney beans, unsalted nuts, peanut butter and canned oily fish. Consultant dietitian Rebecca McManamon adds tinned fruit, whose juice counts towards your fluids, and pickled vegetables, and both experts suggest long-life milk from the non-refrigerated aisle. They advise avoiding items in brine or syrup, instant noodles, tinned soup and sugary cereals or bars because of the salt and sugar.
