Daily UK Prepper News — 1 July 2026

Keith The Prepper reporting the daily news

The Ofgem energy price cap rose 13% today, taking the average household bill to £1,862 a year and pushing an estimated 13.5 million homes into fuel poverty — submit a meter reading now if you haven’t already. Kent households face a hosepipe ban from Friday as demand hits record highs, and a new FSA recall (SPAR chicken and mushroom sauce, undeclared soya) joins fresh MHRA alerts on two commonly prescribed medicines. Check today’s recall list if either affects your household.

🌦️ Weather Warnings & Outlook

UK — No Active Warnings, Second Heatwave Possible Next Week

Status: Monitoring. The Met Office confirms no yellow, amber, or red weather warnings are in force anywhere in the UK for the next seven days, following last week’s record-breaking heat. However, BBC forecasters are flagging signs of a second heatwave building from early-to-mid next week as hot air shifts north from Europe. Nothing is confirmed yet — no household action needed today, but worth checking the forecast again in a few days.

Do not eat this product if you have a soya allergy. Return it to any SPAR store for a full refund, no receipt needed.

Affected: England. For batch details, see the FSA food alerts page.

England — MHRA Alert: Flucloxacillin Capsules BP 500mg (Wrong Patient Leaflet)

Status: Confirmed. The MHRA issued a Class 3 medicines recall on 30 June 2026 for Flucloxacillin Capsules BP 500mg (Flamingo Pharma) after affected packs were found to contain the patient information leaflet for Amoxicillin instead of Flucloxacillin. Anyone taking this antibiotic should check the leaflet inside the pack matches the medicine name on the box, and speak to their pharmacist if unsure — particularly if a penicillin allergy is recorded against a different antibiotic name.

UK Prepper Hub Tip of the Day

With the price cap up again, the cheapest kWh is still the one you don’t use. Batch cooking, only running the dishwasher or washing machine when full, and drying washing outside instead of tumble drying all add up faster than most households expect over a full quarter.
