What the 1-Meter Reach Actually Solves

External stopcocks are buried deep to protect them from ground frost — typically 75cm to 1 metre down, sometimes deeper in older properties. A standard short wrench won’t reach. A screwdriver won’t reach. Your hand definitely won’t reach.

The Unibos key puts the crutch head fitting at the bottom of a 1-metre alloy steel shaft with a T-handle at the top. You lower it into the access pit, locate the valve head, and turn. That’s the whole product. It does that job well.

The T-handle is important — external stop valves are often stiff from years without use. You need proper leverage to break them free without damaging the valve. The wide T-handle gives you that without straining the shaft.

The Chisel End — More Useful Than it Sounds

The handle end doubles as a chisel for levering open access covers. This sounds like a minor detail until you’re trying to get a stiff, possibly corroded metal cover open in an emergency with your bare fingers and no tools.

Build Quality — An Honest Assessment

It’s alloy steel. It’s solid. It won’t bend under normal use and it has more than enough strength for the job it’s designed to do.

The paint does wear off the working end over time, particularly if you store it somewhere damp or use it regularly. Surface rust appears. This doesn’t affect the structural integrity of the steel or the tool’s ability to do its job — it’s a working tool, not garden furniture. An old hammer goes rusty. A handsaw develops surface rust on the blade. Neither stops working. Same here.

If the paint bothers you, wipe it down occasionally and store it somewhere dry.

The One Thing That Actually Matters

The tool is only useful if you know where your external stopcock is before you need it. Lift the cover once — ideally in daylight, on a dry afternoon — confirm the valve is there and the tool fits, then put the key somewhere accessible.
