Daily UK Prepper News — 4 July 2026

Keith The Prepper reporting the daily news

Temperatures are set to climb into the low 30s by Monday, with yellow heat-health alerts remaining in place across the East Midlands, East of England, London, South East and South West — the hottest spell since last month’s record-breaking June. Two new FSA allergen recalls have been issued today for undeclared gluten in a salsa and an orzo, alongside the ongoing Northern Ireland Listeria ham recall, so it’s worth checking cupboards before the weekend shop. Cool your home down and top up on fuel now — both are cheaper and easier before next week’s heat properly arrives.

See our Special Report “Prepare for a Heatwave: The Hottest May Since 1922” first published on 1 June 2026.

🌦️ Weather Warnings & Outlook

England — Heat Building to 32°C by Monday

Status: Developing. As previously covered (3 July), yellow heat-health alerts remain in place across the East Midlands, East of England, London, South East and South West. The Met Office‘s latest forecast shows temperatures building through the weekend — 28°C today and 29°C tomorrow — before reaching 32°C on Monday and staying in the low 30s into midweek, described as “very warm or hot” and above average for early July. It follows what the Met Office has already confirmed as England’s warmest June on record.

Norfolk — Hunstanton Coastal Flood Alert Lifted

Status: Resolved. The flood alert for the Hunstanton coast in Norfolk, covered in previous reports, is no longer in force according to the Environment Agency’s flood service. Some standing water and debris may remain in the area but there is no further flood threat at this stage.

🔒 Cyber & National Security Alerts

UK & France — Joint Statement on Strait of Hormuz Security

Status: Developing. The UK and France issued a joint statement on 3 July affirming the Strait of Hormuz’s importance to global trade, confirming Oman will work with both countries to help restore safe transit through its territorial waters, and that both nations stand ready to support a wider multinational military mission for freedom of navigation through the strait. Around a third of the world’s seaborne oil trade passes through the strait, so continued stability there has a direct bearing on UK fuel and energy costs. Source: Prime Minister’s Office.

Global — New Phishing Platform Targets Microsoft 365 Business Accounts

Status: Ongoing. Researchers have identified “ARToken”, a new phishing-as-a-service platform linked to the EvilTokens group, which uses device code phishing to trick Microsoft 365 users — particularly accounts payable staff — into unknowingly authorising attackers into their email, SharePoint and OneDrive accounts via invoice-themed emails. If your household runs a small business or community group on Microsoft 365, be cautious of unexpected sign-in prompts or device codes, and enable multi-factor authentication if you haven’t already. 🚗 Transport & Travel Notes

⚡ Power & Infrastructure

💧 Water & Utilities

Status: Ongoing. South East Water’s hosepipe ban across Kent remains in force, and Southern Water’s ban for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight is still due to begin on 10 July — no new developments to report today beyond what’s already covered in previous briefings. Source: BBC News.

🏦 Banking, Finance & Cost of Living

Northern Ireland — SSE Airtricity Electricity Bills to Rise 6.2% From 1 August

Status: Confirmed. SSE Airtricity has announced domestic electricity bills in Northern Ireland will rise by 6.2% from 1 August — about 20p a day, or £71.57 extra a year, taking the typical annual bill to £1,277.07. The company blames “sustained higher wholesale market costs” outside its control. Customers struggling to pay are advised to contact the company for support, and the Consumer Council for Northern Ireland notes paying by standard tariff on receipt of a bill is the most expensive way to pay. Update: Fuel Prices Keep Falling as Hormuz Shipping Stabilises

Status: Ongoing. As previously covered (3 July), diesel prices have continued to fall on the back of recovering Strait of Hormuz shipping traffic and easing oil markets. The Guardian reports the FTSE 100 closed at a four-month high on Friday, its best close since 2 March, as investor confidence holds despite disappointing UK services sector data. The UK and France’s joint statement on securing the strait (see Cyber & National Security above) points to continued efforts to keep that stability in place. More background in our Middle East Conflict: UK Household Impact tracker.

🌞 Space Weather & Geomagnetic Activity

Update: Geomagnetic Storm Escalates to G3 (Strong) Today

Status: Developing. As previously covered (3 July), a G2 storm was forecast to continue into today — it has now escalated further, with the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center confirming a G3 (Strong) geomagnetic storm alert this morning, valid until midday tomorrow, after the geomagnetic K-index reached 7. G3 storms can cause minor power grid voltage irregularities and GPS/HF radio degradation, and may bring aurora visibility further south than usual after dark tonight, including parts of northern England. No household action needed — this is a background item for space weather watchers.

🔔 Other UK Household Risk Alerts

Ageing Fridges May Struggle to Keep Food Safe as Heat Builds

Status: Confirmed. Refrigeration experts warn that many UK fridges are designed to operate reliably only up to about 32°C — the exact temperature the Met Office forecasts for Monday — and can struggle to stay cold or fail completely above that. Engineers have reported record call-outs for fridges that have “given up the ghost” during recent hot spells, and some supermarkets have seen fridges switch off entirely. If your fridge-freezer is older, check it isn’t overloaded or blocked at the back, and keep an eye on food safety over the next few days. Source: BBC News.

Quick Risk Summary — 48-Hour Checklist

  • ☑️ Check on elderly or vulnerable neighbours and relatives ahead of Monday’s expected 32°C
  • ☑️ Check today’s recall list if you’ve bought orzo, salsa or Irish ham matching today’s alerts
  • ☑️ If your fridge-freezer is older, make sure it isn’t overloaded or blocked at the back before the heat builds
  • ☑️ Close curtains and blinds on sun-facing windows during the day to keep your home cooler into next week
  • ☑️ Top up on fuel while prices remain low, before summer getaway demand picks up
  • ☑️ Make sure pets have shade and fresh water as temperatures climb
